Open Year Round but the lower part of Kings Canyon is closed from November to May
Dorst Campground (May - Sept)
Lodgepole Campground (year round)
Another pleasant surprise. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are good places to get away from the insane crowds at nearby Yosemite National Park as it receives about a third of Yosemite's visitors.
It may not feature the sheer granite walls of Yosemite, but it's still a breath of fresh air in the Sierra Wilderness. Far to the East of Sequoia National Park lies Mount Whitney (the tallest peak in the lower 48), and great hiking abounds through the peaks and valleys of the high Sierra. If it aren't interested in back-packing drive through the groves of Sequoia trees. It's really hard to imagine the immense size of these giants even when you're standing right next to them. Take a stroll through the Sequoia Museum to get a little better understanding of the destruction, preservation, and history of the trees and the park.
