Peak Season: Summer
North Rim or South Rim Campground
This is basically one of thsoe parks that you just come and have a look at. Much like the Grand Canyon there is a south rim and north rim area to the park and there's a big ditch in the ground. That's pretty much where the comparison ends. This canyon is a sheer black wall extending nearly 3,000 feet from its floor where the Gunnison River passes through from a Dam at the Southern end of the park.
This is another park that I was pleasantly surprised by. When you receive a park map, all you see are overlooks. At first I am sure you are thinking that they are over-doing it with the overlooks but they all offer different vantages of the canyon that varies greatly in width and depth. You can access the canyon floor by car via a steep, black-topped road. The canyon is just as spectacular from the floor as it is from the rim.
