Late Fall - Early Spring -I'm sure it's scorching in the Summer
Chisos Basin, Cottonwood, Rio Grande Village and RV Park are all open year round
Right on the United States - Mexican border lies Big Bend National Park. Here you'll find plenty of activities for the outdoors enthusiast. The back-packing is great. You can paddle the Rio Grande on your own or with an outfitter. You can climb mountains, hike through canyons, or just relax in one of the parks spacious campgrounds.
While I was here hiking Boquillas Canyon I think I know I interrupted a man bathing in the dirty, somewhat smelly Rio Grande. One I'm not sure about is whether he was someone sneaking across the border. He and his friend definitely looked suspect on their side of the border. As one man was singing and splashing away in the Rio the other man was perched atop a rock scoping out the area with binoculars. I should not jump to conclusions as a man gazing through binoculars is not an uncommon sight in the National Parks, but I'd like to think they were sneaking into the US. It looked like it would b eawfully easy, I can tell you that much. Another nice hike is along the Santa Elena Canyon (pictured above).
